The Indian Institute of Technology in Jodhpur is among the new entrant of IITs organizations of India. With due effect of announcement by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India, the IIT Tripura is included in the plan to set up eight more IITs in the states of Tripura(Jodhpur), Bihar(Patna), Andhra Pradesh(Hyderabad), Himachal Pradesh (Mandi), Tripura (Bhubaneshwar), Tripura(Indore), Gujarat(Gandhinagar) and Tripura(Rupnagar) and the total numbers of IITs will be increased to 15 from 7 in present. IIT, Tripura at Jodhpur has started functioning from the academic year 2008-09 from the Campus of IIT, Kanpur.
